Our Supporters

Special Equestrians is indebted to the individuals, organizations, businesses, and foundations that contribute to our organization each year.  Without their generous support, we would not be able to serve the children and adults who benefit from our therapeutic riding classes and hippotherapy sessions.  Links to those very special donors who have websites are provided.

2010 Donor News

May: Two great news items to share:  The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham has approved a grant of $3,000 to support operating costs at Special Equestrians.  They were donors in 2008 but we were not eligible for additional funds again until this year.  We are very grateful to have their renewed support.  Also, thanks to Summer Classics of Pelham Special Equestrians has three new bistro tables, umbrellas, and chairs for the People Paddock as well as a new table and chairs for the volunteer area and a lovely bench at the entrance to the barn. The furniture and delivery were all a gift from Summer Classics, who deserve a huge “Thank you!”

April:  The UAB Faculty and Staff Benevolent Fund has awarded Special Equestrians a $5,000 grant.  This is a repeat gift for the Fund, which appears below on the 2008/09 Winners’ Circle.  That grant came in 2008 but we were not eligible to apply again until this year.  We greatly appreciate their renewed support.

March:  Blackhawk Farms again donated a truckload of hay (their first donation was last summer), a roughly 6-month supply for our twelve horses.

February:  Thanks to the generosity of APAC Mid-South and Alabama Bridge Builders, Special Equestrians has a paved road!  And it is not just any asphalt – it is warm mix “green” asphalt.  It incorporates a large percentage of recycled asphalt mixed with water and soap-like chemicals called surfactants and can be laid at much lower temperatures than traditional asphalt.  This, combined with the recycled nature of the product, lessens the impact on the environment.  Learn more about the project in a recent article in the Pelham City News and about these wonderful companies at www.apacmidsouth.com and www.alabamabridgebuilders.com

January:  Special Equestrians is proud to announce the receipt of a $15,000 grant from CVS Caremark Charitable Trust.  The donation was made through their All Kids Can Program, which focuses on funding organizations that serve children with disabilities.
